Description summary
- You join the engineering team to deliver bespoke, high-performing PHP solutions for a wide range of clients, always balancing technical quality with maintainable, human-friendly code.
- You work in a permanent, full-time, UK-based hybrid role, choosing between remote work, time in the Sheffield office or a mix, with monthly in-office days and company away days plus the ability to travel to Sheffield a few times a year.
- You develop, implement and fix features on new and existing projects, including fully bespoke applications, deeply customised CMS builds and off-the-shelf Shopify stores, and handle deployments to live systems.
- You write unit, feature and integration tests using automated testing suites, review teammates’ code and test it against specifications, and help maintain performance, reliability and security.
- You bring strong modern, object-oriented PHP skills, solid experience with frameworks such as Laravel or Symfony/Yii/CakePHP/Spiral, and are confident working with SQL, ORMs and databases like PostgreSQL, SQLite, MySQL and MongoDB.
- You are comfortable integrating and extending PHP-based CMSs such as Craft CMS, Statamic or similar, use Git and GitLab effectively, and care about automated testing, performance optimisation and secure coding practices.
- You ideally offer additional skills in Docker, CI/CD pipelines (for example GitLab pipelines, GitHub Actions, CircleCI or Jenkins), cloud infrastructure on providers like AWS or Google Cloud Platform, and tools like Pulumi or Ansible for infrastructure-as-code and system planning.
- You have several years of professional experience, ideally at senior level, can demonstrate project leadership within small aligned teams, and are happy with a mix of coding, planning, estimating and meetings while remaining comfortable writing and understanding your own code without over reliance on AI.
